Low Cost Wedding Cakes, How do you Do It?

Tuesday, October 6th, 2009

Every bride wants a ceremony and reception that is beautiful and elegant and that truly expresses her own personality.  Unfortunately not everyone can afford to have everything they want for their wedding and may find it difficult to balance these two situations.  However you can trim some money from your expenses by choosing some Budget Wedding cakes for your reception.  Here are some basic suggestions to keep in mind.

For one thing, remember that you don’t need a traditional huge tiered cake for your wedding.  Some low cost wedding cakes will mean some other options instead.  Many brides are finding that a nice selection of simple layer cakes can be just as beautiful if they’re all decorated nicely.  You can have one special cake with a cake topper that you and the groom slice together but other cakes can be made or even bought from your bakery or supermarket as options for low cost wedding cakes.  Your guests will likely not even mind seeing those other cakes and won’t miss that large tiered cake.  Some brides even have one small special cake that is beautifully decorated but then have sheet cakes in the kitchen that can be sliced and served to guests.  Rarely do they even realize this has happened since the ingredients are the same and it’s already sliced when they receive it!  Using these sheet cakes as low cost wedding cakes is a great idea for those who have a large number of guests attending.

Cupcakes have become a good alternative for low cost wedding cakes; they can be presented in a tree or tower so that they resemble a tiered cake.  Cupcakes are actually sometimes much nicer than a large cake since they’re all individually decorated so they look very beautiful when a guest receives it, as opposed to a typical cake which is sliced so that guests can’t even see the decorations!  Cupcakes as Low Cost Wedding cakes are a fun and festive way to add some personality to your reception and often guests don’t even notice that you’re using cupcakes since they’re so beautifully decorated.

The decorating is what usually gets in the way of low cost wedding cakes.  If you pay a professional to hand decorate your cake then of course it’s going to cost more than any other cake.  Keep this in mind when shopping for Low Cost Wedding cakes.  Ask the local bakery what options they have for cakes that are not personally decorated but that you can buy off the rack or off the shelf.  Very often they have a wide selection of cakes that are very beautiful and very tasty but since they’re not specifically decorated for you then of course they don’t cost quite as much.  A bakery might also have some options for cakes that they decorate but not according to your instructions; these make great low cost wedding cakes since they’re dressier than most cakes but still very affordable.

Plan a Perfect Wedding Reception

Sunday, August 16th, 2009

Your wedding reception is the time to celebrate with all the family and friends that you love. The goal should be to host an event that everyone can enjoy. When planning your wedding reception, find a compromise between what you want and what will make your guests the most comfortable.

For your reception you must choose what kind of meal you would like to offer. This is a big expense in you wedding budget. If the wedding reception is going to be hosted for most of the evening, it is assumed that there will be dinner offered to the guests. If you are having a morning wedding you may be able to host a low key reception with hors d’oeuvres and a cocktail hour after the ceremony. Remember that you should be considerate in how you would like to host your guests. They traveled to celebrate with you and have probably brought you a generous gift.

Another big ticket item is the bar. First you should consider if you would like to host an open bar. Given the size of your guest list, this bill can become outrageous. A good compromise is hosting an open bar to a cash limit or for a fixed number of hours. If your guests wish to drink more after you have already bought the first couple rounds, then they can do so.

Many hosts want to create a party with their reception. Others may want to host a quiet and enjoyable evening. Make sure you choose the right band or DJ to create the scene you want. Music can create the mood and move the evening along. Create a sequence with your DJ. When first entering the reception hall, try some background music while everyone is taking their seats and getting acquainted. During dinner, romantic music is enjoyable. While the evening progresses, move to faster music while everyone begins to dance. The party will carry on with the music.

Using Wedding Floral Centerpieces On A Budget

Thursday, July 16th, 2009

Flowers are absolutely beautiful. They are especially beautiful in weddings. Brides choose beautiful blooms to accent the theme or ambiance of the wedding. Some famous weddings have spend hundreds of thousands on flowers, and even normal people can find themselves spending several thousand dollars on flowers for the wedding. In Reality flowers can be very expensive. Here are some tips to using wedding floral centerpieces when working with a budget.

Wedding Floral Centerpieces: What Is In Season

Just like fresh fruits and vegetables, flowers have a specific season. It can be very expensive to try to get strawberries during the winter, for example. The same is true about certain flowers. When choosing wedding flowers, many brides just think about what looks pretty. They forget to think about what is in season and what these out of season flowers are going to end up costing them.

The best way to save money while using wedding floral centerpieces is to use the flowers that are already in season. Instead of having an expensive flower imported—therefore rising the price significantly, Ask the florist what flowers are in season and would look good in your wedding floral centerpiece. If you do not feel comfortable asking the florist, look up online what blooms in your specific area and when.

Use Carnations

Many brides think that they need expensive flowers to make their wedding beautiful. However, this is not true. You can easily use less expensive flowers in your wedding floral centerpiece and still have it look beautiful. Two great filler flowers are carnations and baby’s breath. Baby’s breath is great for rounding out a wedding floral centerpiece and tying the pieces together. Carnations are excellent because, from far away, they almost look like roses. And even when people see that they are not roses, they are still very beautiful flowers to put in your wedding floral centerpiece.

Be Resourceful

Another great way to get some beautiful wedding floral centerpieces for cheap is to be extremely resourceful. If you are decorating your wedding location, for example, bring the floral decorations from the wedding to the reception. You can use these as wedding floral centerpieces instead of having to go out and buy something new! For your own table, you could use your own bouquet for a wedding floral centerpiece. Do not worry—I am not recommending giving away your bouquet! Instead, place it in a clear vase at your table. Voila! A beautiful wedding floral centerpiece.

Choosing the Perfect Wedding Gown

Wednesday, May 13th, 2009

Choosing a wedding gown as a wedding planner is a very important process, one that a bride gets incredibly excited about. It’s one of the most fun aspects of preparing your wedding. Even if your wedding planner doesn’t know what dress you want to get, they’ll be able to help you out so that the wedding gown you choose will be memorable for the rest of your life. So with this in mind, it’s one part of your wedding you do not want to wait until the last minute to plan. With that in mind, here are some tips, straight from the mind of a wedding planner that will help you start your search!

It’s likely that your gown will take about 4-6 months to arrive after you’ve ordered it. So start looking for the perfect gown EARLY! You’ll want to order it as soon as possible so you can have ample time for fittings and alterations well before the BIG DAY. It will take a while to find the gown, so don’t underestimate it. Each fitting and alteration will take ample amounts of time.

You should sit down and plan out your dress budget with your wedding planner, keeping in mind that there are several things to buy like jewelry, accessories, gloves, veil, and other clothing.

Make sure you try your dress on because they don’t look like they do hanging up! So try on several gowns. You might find that a gorgeous gown on the hanger might not flatter your figure as you’d hoped. Never choose a gown without trying it on!

Ask your wedding planner or store staff to help you out with any questions you may have. They are there to help, and more than likely, they’ve sold hundreds of wedding dresses to women like you. In addition, when you speak with the wedding planner or staff, it will give them a good idea for what you are looking for.

Don’t make the mistake of ordering a gown that is “only one size smaller” than your usual size. It’s much cheaper to order the right size, instead of ordering smaller with the promise to yourself that you’ll lose weight before the wedding.

Grab your wedding planner when your dress arrives at the store, and make sure to look at it at the store. Try the wedding dress on there before you pay for it.

While trying the dress on, view all angles. Finding something you don’t like at the store is much easier to fix than finding it once you get home, so make sure you tell your wedding planner or store staff any imperfections that you find. More than likely, they will be able to alter and fix the problem.

As a wedding planner who does several weddings per month, I wish you the absolute best luck in your wedding gown search!
