Tips for amateur wedding photographers

Friday, November 20th, 2009

One of the biggest jobs any photographer can get is as a wedding photographer.  One of the biggest hobbies around is photography. Not all people who learn photography do it for money.Wedding photography is very exciting for those who are still an amateur in this thing. So if you know some friends who are getting married you can surprise them with photos that may be better than the photos taken by their hired photographer. So here are tips on how to do it.

These are some tips for an amateur photographer but they are some tips I have gained doing San Diego photographer work.So if you are already a professional these tips can help you too.Because as I have said, doing wedding photography is one of the biggest things that can happen to a photographer.

The first tip would be to work yourself to be in the moment. What am I trying to say?Well, most of us know what happens in a wedding. There are events that are palnned. But a lot of emotions happen during those events even if they are planned. So you should be ready for those unplannned emotions and take them. Those shots that have emotions in them will be the best among all the photos that you will be taking.  In my portfolio as a San Diego wedding photographer you can see that to be the case.

Another thing to remember is that in a wedding people are constantly on the move. So don’t just look for still shots. You will have some of your best photos if you capture the movement of the people. It is a hard trick to capture but can be done.  Of course I had to hone my skills doing event photography San Diego to be able to do this.  But once you capture some shots that are more than still shots you will love it.You have the chance of topping their hired photographer. That would be a great feeling if you are still an amateur. And you can even brag about your shots to your friends.Plus, it can be the start of an extra-income job.

One of the most popular hobbies around is photography.  People all over the world love to take photos. For a select few, they will be able to turn it into another income source. For those that do really have a knack for photography, they can do it as a business.  But the only way to do that is to know how to take better pictures. So here are some methods you can use to be a better photographer.

One thing that is very important and that is practice.  This goes without saying but you should do it.Thankfully a majority of people who read this are people who love photography.  So doing practice will be doing something you love.  In my San Diego wedding photographer business when I am not on the job but just practicing, I love it.That is what is so good about photography. It could be something you do as a hobby, but if you can earn money with it, that will make it fun.

Another idea is taking photographs of any weddings you attend. You could possibly have someone that is a friend getting married.  If you do see if you can take shots of their wedding.  They surely won’t mind another person taking photos.  As a San Diego photographer that is how I started. They might or might not be willing to pay you for your photography.  Either way it will gain you valuable experience.Since the best and biggest jobs will be weddings.

Finally you can go to events.Another huge job you may do as a photographer is doing event photography.  I do San Diego event photography and it is a lot of fun. And doing it to make some extra money will make it extra fun.It is going to allow you to gain some great experience by taking photos of huge events. You are going to gain a lot of valuable experience by taking photos of all those great moments.

So there you go.If you would like to earn some more money through photography, those are some ways you can do it.It is going to help you begin, but also help you become real good.

Planning a Bridal Shower Surprise

Monday, June 22nd, 2009

Although it often seems as though surprises are impossible these days what with Blackberrys, email and text messaging, there are ways that it can be done. If you want to throw a Bridal shower surprise there are a few things that you will want to keep in mind and which will help to make it the best Bridal shower surprise ever.

Prepare the Lists First

You cannot do anything without having a proper guest list first. Send proper invitations to them, with an RSVP so that you know who will actually attend and who won’t. If there are adjustments to be made, such as some of the guests find some other day suitable than what you have chosen, try to make the changes. You also have to take their traveling into consideration.

Who to include in the guest list? The close family members and the friends of the bride must all be there. This is a way to start making the list actually.

Choose the Date

Once you have your guest lists ready, you can go ahead and plan the date. Selecting a date is never an easy affair. The biggest problem is that you are keeping this a secret from the bride, but at the same time you have to make sure that she will be able to come to the venue (whichever you choose) on that date, without having an inkling that you are planning something for her.

You will have to take her fiancé into confidence. Request him to coordinate the date; he will be the best candidate for that job.

Keep the Bride Occupied

If the bride has no work to do, she can become suspicious sooner, especially when her close people are busy with something else, i.e. planning a shower for her that she does not know about. A good thing to do if you want to surprise her is to keep her busy. This allows you to plan and implement things better. But remember, she should not understand that you are trying to keep her out of the way.

Have a Secrecy Pact

Bridal showers can be very exciting, especially a Bridal shower surprise, but you have to make sure that everyone keeps quiet. The more people each person tells about the surprise party the more likely that it is going to leak out and the guest of honor will find out about the surprise, so make sure that all of the invited guests are tight lipped and keep it on a need to know basis.
