Wedding Centerpieces to Astound Your Guests

Tuesday, November 17th, 2009

For those that want to be safe, flowers are always the route to go when choosing your wedding centerpiece. But for those that want to be a bit more creative, there are more than a few alternatives that are available to them.

Few things add more romance to the celebration than candle wedding centerpieces. You can find many types of kits of various quality. An example of a great looking piece are the floating candle kits. You can buy these over the Internet as well as from wedding catalogs. The floating candle centerpiece is so named because the candle “floats” on a foundation of glass stones placed in water.

Most cheap wedding centerpieces can be created from uncommon and unique objects as diverse as seashells, candles and even stones. For instance, a seashell centerpiece would work great or a beach theme. If you are having a wedding in a Japanese garden, for example, a wedding centerpiece designed around stones could be ideal. Let your wedding theme guide your choice of what type of wedding centerpiece to go with instead of the other way around.

Another unusual idea for a wedding table centerpiece is to use a tropical fruit theme (coconuts, pineapples, etc) instead of a floral theme. This can give the proceedings a nice exotic feel.  Fruit is also relatively inexpensive when compared with some of the other choices available.

Do you like sweets? If so, a candy centerpiece certainly might be one of the more unusual decorations. Think about having candy bouquets as centerpieces. In addition, to being tasteful, a candy centerpiece is self liquidating. You won’t have to worry about what to do with the wedding centerpiece once the celebrations are over.

Live fish swimming in a bowl as a wedding centerpiece certainly provides a great visual impact. The idea is to stock the bowl with a few species of colorful fish. You would then populate the bottom of each bowl with glass marbles or beads. Not only will it act as a great conversation piece but it will also help to  keep the children occupied at the kids table. The one drawback is that not everyone is comfortable with the idea of utilizing live animals such as fish for an event like this. In addition, there’s the question of what to do with the fish once the wedding ceremony is over.

For a really romantic wedding centerpiece, think about using a heart shaped candle-holder. You place one or two on each table and when the lights are dimmed, they create a dramatic display.  These are also great keepsakes to give to the guests once the wedding is over. And, for the do-it-yourselfers, these also are a very simple craft project that you can make at home by yourself. You can also add an aromatic element by using scented candles.

If you’re without fear and have at least a bit of decorative taste, you may be adventurous enough to try your hand at creating your own wedding centerpieces. Not only is it a fantastic means of saving money, but it also lets you be involved in a more creative way in the planning of your own wedding. If you don’t know where to start, you can find detailed plans on the internet on creating some very striking and beautiful arrangements. The downside, of course, is that it can be a hassle trying to put all the pieces together by yourself.

Using Wedding Floral Centerpieces On A Budget

Flowers are absolutely beautiful. They are especially beautiful in weddings. Brides choose beautiful blooms to accent the theme or ambiance of the wedding. Some famous weddings have spend hundreds of thousands on flowers, and even normal people can find themselves spending several thousand dollars on flowers for the wedding. In Reality flowers can be very expensive. Here are some tips to using wedding floral centerpieces when working with a budget.

Wedding Floral Centerpieces: What Is In Season

Just like fresh fruits and vegetables, flowers have a specific season. It can be very expensive to try to get strawberries during the winter, for example. The same is true about certain flowers. When choosing wedding flowers, many brides just think about what looks pretty. They forget to think about what is in season and what these out of season flowers are going to end up costing them.

The best way to save money while using wedding floral centerpieces is to use the flowers that are already in season. Instead of having an expensive flower imported—therefore rising the price significantly, Ask the florist what flowers are in season and would look good in your wedding floral centerpiece. If you do not feel comfortable asking the florist, look up online what blooms in your specific area and when.

Use Carnations

Many brides think that they need expensive flowers to make their wedding beautiful. However, this is not true. You can easily use less expensive flowers in your wedding floral centerpiece and still have it look beautiful. Two great filler flowers are carnations and baby’s breath. Baby’s breath is great for rounding out a wedding floral centerpiece and tying the pieces together. Carnations are excellent because, from far away, they almost look like roses. And even when people see that they are not roses, they are still very beautiful flowers to put in your wedding floral centerpiece.

Be Resourceful

Another great way to get some beautiful wedding floral centerpieces for cheap is to be extremely resourceful. If you are decorating your wedding location, for example, bring the floral decorations from the wedding to the reception. You can use these as wedding floral centerpieces instead of having to go out and buy something new! For your own table, you could use your own bouquet for a wedding floral centerpiece. Do not worry—I am not recommending giving away your bouquet! Instead, place it in a clear vase at your table. Voila! A beautiful wedding floral centerpiece.

Make Wedding Reception Centerpiece Yourself

You might feel overwhelmed with the amount of things you have to do for the wedding. If you want something to help de-stress you and give you a few minutes of peace, think about making your own wedding reception centerpieces. One homemade idea is to use baked goods. Everyone likes baked goods, and you cannot go wrong in using them! You could put a plate of delicious homemade cookies in the center of the table. Using icing, pipe you and your fiancé’s names and the wedding date. Another great baked good idea is to put a cake, pie, or other delicious desert in the middle of the table. Put a dot or other mark on the bottom of a chair or a place mat. The one who has that dot on their seat or placemat becomes the temporary owner and can keep the centerpiece! You guests will not forget this wedding reception centerpiece!

On A Budget

Using baked goods is a great wedding reception centerpieces idea if you are on a budget. However, it can get expensive depending on what you are making. Ask for help from family and friends if you need it. If you still need to work with a tight budget, try asking the planner for your banquet hall what type of centerpieces they usually use. Chances are they have their own standard wedding reception centerpieces that you could use free of charge or for very cheap. You may, however, have to add your own bit to the centerpiece. For example, if they have anything to do with candles, you will probably need to purchase your own candles to put in them. You can also use a wedding floral centerpiece and many people consider it a great idea. Bring over some flowers from the wedding and place them in the tables. Your wedding reception hall will look beautiful and no one will have ever known that the flowers were recycled!
